During the 2020/2021 Patrol Season, Director of Lifesaving, Mikaela Sutherland will select one or sometimes two patrol members each month who deserved a bit of extra recognition for their extraordinary efforts whilst on patrol and they will be rewarded with a $50 Visa Card.
Please congratulate – Adam New
Adam has been an exemplary member in the shoulder period of the patrol season, assisting and logging hours several times when we were light-on with members having competition commitments. Adam also stepped up by helping out with IRB training and assisting a large group of IRB crews attain their awards.
Please congratulate – Michael Bonnici
Michael consistently outperforms as Wanda’s fearless leader in his role as Club Captain. His seamless coordination and leadership of our response to the NSW flooding in March 2021 made him a worthy recipient of Patrol Member of the Month.
Please congratulate – Ben Sutton
Ben has displayed maturity and professionalism beyond his years. Not only is he the youngest member of Wanda’s call out team, he attributed 54 patrol hours (end of February 2021) – an incredible effort for any member. Great work Ben.
Please congratulate – Kaylene Walker
Kaylene is a deserving recipient of the Patrol Member of the Month award thanks to her quick thinking in a critical incident occurring with one of our own members. With them sustaining a suspected spinal injury, Kaylene was quick to act in managing the situation and injury until paramedics arrived on scene. Kaylene’s actions were noted as significant in preventing long term spinal injuries to our own Wanda member. An exceptional effort by Kaylene.
Please congratulate Lachlan Crawford and Harriet Smith
Lachlan received the Patrol Member of the Month award for his significant rescue on 27 December 2020. Lachlan successfully rescued 2 near drowning swimmers off track 15 at Wanda Beach. Lachlan was not on patrol at the time but was going for a body surf when he spotted the 2 POIs in trouble. Lachlan’s efforts to respond immediately to rescue these people certainly proved a positive outcome. Assistance was also aided by members of Elouera SLSC roving patrol, RWC operator Kane Hughes and Cameron Pyett and Jon Hayman – Sutherland Shire Lifeguards. A great effort by all involved. Full details are here
Harriet was awarded Patrol Member of the Month for her dedication to patrols, offering to fill in and sub for people whenever necessary, and volunteering to assist Denny Rowlands and the team on the recent ART course. Harriet engaged so well with the members and provided a valuable and realistic perspective on the course.
Please congratulate Matt Pentney
Matt has been incredibly helpful upon his return to Wanda, jumping on patrols where needed, providing ideas for improvements, and assisting the education section on recent IRB courses. The club is very thankful for his assistance.
Please congratulate – Troy Weston
Troy has done an exceptional job not only stepping up as a Patrol Captain, but also filling in for other captains. On a substitute patrol, Troy achieved 300/300 on a surprise patrol audit. He is a great role model and set a positive example early on into the season. Well done Troy!
