WANDA 5th AT SURF LIFE SAVING STATE AGE TITLES

Wanda SLSCs 140 strong nipper team has taken home 23 medals, including six state titles, at the 2020 NSW Surf Life Saving State Age Championships.

Wanda finished 5th overall, behind North Curl Curl SLSC (1st), Coogee (2nd), Cooks Hill (3rd) and Swansea (4th). South Maroubra (6th), North Cronulla (7th), North Bondi (8th), Elouera (9th) and Newport (10th) rounded out the top ten clubs.

The Championships were held at Swansea Belmont SLSC over the weekend. Over 2,700 nippers, aged u9-u14, competed in near perfect weather and surf conditions across all surf life saving disciplines including water events, beach, R&R and march past.

“It was a great weekend for Wanda, we’re so proud of all our nippers. State is a fantastic event, very competitive with the best-of-the-best from around NSW, but it’s also fun, a great chance for the nippers to test themselves and meet nippers from around the state.

“Our team won 6 state championships, 23 podium finishes and many top 6 placings. Most of all, our nippers were all out there giving it a go and hopefully enjoying the experience.

“There were many highlights, it’s impossible to single out a few.

“Keira Vincent once again showed she’s absolute champion, winning the state title in the u13 flags and then silver in u13 beach sprint. This double is a feat she has achieved in previous years.”

“In their first state titles, our u9 age group were outstanding in the water events, winning multiple medals in individual and team events, showing they’ll be a very competitive age group in years to come.

“It was fantastic to have our first ever Wanda nippers participants in the Inclusive events, Cooper and Dalton Rowlands. The inclusive events were inspiring to watch and it was great to see Wanda parents down there supporting them.

“Overall we had excellent team performances across the board. A large portion of our points came on teams day, heywith many teams medalling. It was super exciting to see the kids celebrating team success.

“A huge thanks to all our coaches, volunteers, water safety, IRB, officials and families for making our State Championship such a success,” said Mrs Sutton.

Later this week, Masters and Open athletes will compete in their respective State Championships at Swansea SLSC, with Wanda again expected to compete strongly. Stay up to date with details on live coverage, programs and results here.
