Wanda’s very own Director of Lifesaving was awarded the Community Service Award and crowned the 2018 Young Achiever of the Year NSW & ACT!

This award acknowledges, encourages and most importantly promotes the positive achievements of all young people.

Michael was recognised for his commitment in helping others and for the hundreds, if not thousands of hours he dedicated to helping those in need.

Michael is involved in dozens of volunteer programs and services, including Director and award-winning volunteer lifesaver at Wanda Surf Life Saving Club and commits hours to refereeing Rugby League games throughout the Shire.

His efforts in helping others continues as he consistently donates blood, volunteers for Meals on Wheels and the Salvation Army, volunteered time to help build schools in Cambodia, is a motivational speaker and a volunteer assistance coordinator for the Council Sutherland-Lakewood Sister City Exchange program.

”I love helping others and I feel like giving someone your time is the biggest gift you can give,” he told Shire News.

”I am so passionate about what I do, I enjoy it. Just seeing the smiles on people’s faces or just the people and experiences you make along the way are so worth the time you sacrifice when volunteering.

”Not to mention all the cool places I get to go to and fun stuff I get to do through Surf Lifesaving,” he ended.

Sutherland Shire Mayor, Carmelo Pesce is expected to acknowledge the young man’s dedicated efforts at the next council meeting during the Mayoral Minute.

We congratulate Michael Bonnici on the hard work he does throughout the Shire and greater area, a well-deserved award.
