Launch of Legends
Wanda Surf Life Saving club launched its newest surf boat “Legends” on Sunday.
The boats’ full name, “Legends – rowers from the 70’s, 80’s and 90’s”, honours the clubs’ great rowers of those eras, many of who were present at the launch.
“Wanda SLSC has a very proud surf boat history and tradition dating back to our first boat being launched in 1946. We’ve had many champion competitors row for our club across the three decades that this boat is named” said Wanda Deputy President Nathan Spinner.
“This new boat, Legends, recognises their contribution to Wanda, both in the past and present. They have laid the foundations for where we are today with surf boat racing.
“We’re extremely appreciative to Gerard Malouf & Partners for donating the boat, such generosity allowing us to strengthen our ever growing surf boat section and keep surf boat tradition thriving at Wanda.”
Mr Malouf and wife Dana officially christened the boat, along with Wanda club patron Ernest “Solly” Stephens OAM, before Wanda competitors carried it to the water for its maiden voyage.
Mark Speakman MP and Mayor Carmelo Pesce were among the guests at the launch, together with surf club life members, members and supporters.
