April 4

Facebook Msg from OT

Dear fellow OT competitors and sponsors,

We are disappointed to have to announce that Ocean Thunder round 4 cannot be run as scheduled on April 4th 2020. We were well aware from emails and phone calls that crews had hoped to have one last hit out to make the seasons training worthwhile after the SLSA National Titles were cancelled. As a result we had held off making this decision as we wanted to give ourselves every opportunity to still proceed if the situation would allow us.

With the announcements made by the State and Federal Governments in the last two days that this is now declared a biosecurity emergency and that all non-essential group gatherings should be cancelled we have no choice but to postpone. While we would all like to think OT is essential, we all know that under the current situation gripping the world, running the event as scheduled would not be a sensible move and may even had resulted in Council or other levels of government getting involved and causing us angst.

We have already made up the trophies for the round 4 and the series. Rather than cancelling altogether and simply declaring a winner robbing everyone of a last chance to improve their standing, we have preferred to postpone until November. If your current crew is not rowing next season or has changes then the team/sponsor will be able to enter another crew. Existing points will be carried forward and the crew who does row for that team will add to those points.

Following that round on November 7th, we will be having our season end function/presentation at the Collaroy Beach Club.

It is then likely that next year’s 4 rounds will be held We will commence the next series on January 9th, followed by February 6th, March 13th and April 3rd 2021. We will meet with SLSA to check the carnival calendar and pick dates that will suit the program and hopefully give crews the hard tight racing closer to Championship carnivals than in previous years. Watch this space. We are happy to receive feedback on the programming if you feel you have input that will benefit all competitors.

Thank you again for your understanding and we hope you have a great off season.
