Apoloylictic comes to mind when I try to describe the weather events at Glenelg Beach.
Our sprinters braved gale force winds to fly down the track with Lauren Campbell claiming our first bronze in the 35-39 sprint. Donna Cox glided through heats of the sprint & in the final was 4th, another 5 metres would have resulted in Gold. Dee just missed the final showing an amazing turn of speed in her semi.
Any young competitior striving to be their best needs to watch Peter Hadfield’s preperation. I witnessed Peter’s first beach championship & was inspired watching him focus on his race when it was go time, Peter placed 3rd & will be the one to watch at Aussies.
Our girls, the 110y female beach relay of Greer Calabro, Mairead Brannock & Loz, reigning World & Australian champions did not disappoint. Loz started strong out of the blocks first to set the team up for a change to Meg who ran head on into the catastrophic weather event & changed to Greer who powered Wanda into the lead & GOLD defending their 2016 World title.
Our 150y men’s were the ones to watch, it has taken Jocko 20 years to get Peter & Zane Campbell into a relay together. After more weather, the beach events were moved from the beach to a grass track where Adelaide hold the gift.
Unfortunately, it was not their day, Zaneo’s return was the talk of the beach & internationals, he didn’t disappoint with his opening leg, a change to Jocko wherein the horrendous condition he dropped the baton. With Aussies just around the corner I’m sure these guys will return to claim that elusive masters GOLD.
