(Results updated at 3:50 PM, Monday 4 August 2008.)

This year was the first year we used electronic timing (Thank you to Chris Stephenson from The Timing Guys).

We have done our upmost to ensure the accuracy of these results. We have overcome every challenge from timing tags lost along the way, to walkers running and runners departing with the walkers.

If you have any reason to believe your result is grossly wrong, please contact Wanda.

 Australian Championships - WA

Well the Australian titles has run and been one for another year and Wanda SLSC has had some awesome and suprising results. Michael Fox defended his  1st U19 2km beach race title. He had the club worried at State after finishing 3rd but as we later found out was under an injury cloud. Whilst on the subject of injury clouds how can’t we mention Nick Fox. Nick was carted off to hospital, however the injury was not as bad as first thought. After being ruled out of Branch State the rest was worth with an awesome board paddle 1st U17 Board Race.

On Saturday of the Australian titles I witnessed Wanda SLSC nipper member Tyler Harding win the U15 Beach flags. He added to his Nipper State results and claimed the flags in true style and a big smile!!! Tyler was still smiling on the Sunday at Wanda’s presentation. In front of almost 1000 people in an amphitheatre and music pumping Tyler kept his cool (even we worried with 4 flags to go) and claimed the Gold

2nd open 5 man R&R

2nd mixed 5 man R&R

2nd open 6 man R&R

Recognition for the inductees to the hall of fame was conducted on Friday 4th April. They were the open 6 man R&R consisting of Col Ricketts, Ian Mcguiness, Clayton Wetherall, Greg Allum, Neil Mcguiness, Graham Dyson and Coach Ron Sandstrom

Graham Dysons ashes were also scattered at the conclusion of the R&R finals on Saturday 5th April by his two sons and Wanda SLSC IRB driver Smokey Caine escorting them out. Grahams wife and five children were in attendance

Some other notable efforts were Hayden Allum’s 8th in the Open ironman, the first Wanda rep since Mark Hampson in the mid 1980’s. Wanda also made the Taplin relay after a 15 year MIA (Scott Allen was in both teams and it isn’t a Jnr Scott it is ‘the’ Scott Allen)

 State Titles

Wanda 2nd in the State!! Chairman Charlie Brown stated in his congratulation speech to Wanda SLSC that he was proud of all the children and the way they represented the club, a great team effort. Wanda has always perfomed well in teams and this was again proved on the final day of the Junior State titles at Swansea Belmont.

Wanda won many medals in team events both in the Surf and on the beach. Notable results were the prestigous All age relay, Wanda finished 2nd behind Manly. Gold medals were won by U14 girls beach relay, U12 girls board relay, U8 boys beach relay.Other individual medal winners were Tyler Harding sprint and flags (who also placed 2nd in the Relay and all age), Kurtis Smith U9 surf race, Anthony Kaskoutas U14 boys surf race, Tara Lilley U12 girls sprint.

Wanda congratulates all of the team who competed last weekend

Wanda sent a small team to compete in the Champion Lifesaver events which combines a board, swim, sprint and tube race with Resus and a exam. Declan Reed was the best finished winning a bronze medal. Kurt Melville was 4th, Blake Mckrindle 4th, Ryan Shelley 6th and Louisa Backhouse just outside the points.

The Masters and Open State titles is held the 6-9th March, masters is on Thursday with the Iredale brothers looking to take all and Nipper age manager Tyrone Courtney looking to snare the Flags.

Other members of Wanda looking for a podium finish would have to be the Reserve Crew of Nathan Spinner, Paul Wilkinson, Tom Chapman, Tyrell Duff and sweep Les Townsand who won the ASRL at Stockton and the Boat race at Pacific Palms.

Michael Fox defending his 2km and hoping for good results in the board and ironman. Dean Buttell in the ironman is hoping to retain his State title as are the Open beach relay. Wanda ironman Hayden Allum is looking to be up there in his first year as a senior. Kirra jones is also one to watch out for. The R&R led by stalwarts Gordon Mckirdy and Grant Sandstrom will also be in the hunt
